Destination: Bahamas

My definition of a perfect vacation? Wake up, walk outside and wait for the magic. And when that happens, it always makes for an amazing experience.

The most recent vacation I took was to the tropical white sand beaches and cerulean blue waters of the Bahamas. I know, you're thinking “been there, done that.” But it's the perfect destination for a long weekend getaway, being just an hour from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and about six hours from Los Angeles, California. If you are chartering or flying your own jet, head towards Nassau's Marsh Harbour Airport. Otherwise, have your travel agent book you on a commercial flight to Lynden Pindling International Airport. Or use some of the million frequent flyer miles you have before the airlines dump the programs altogether.

There are some great places to stay once you’re there; I stayed at the Wyndham Nassau & Crystal Place Casino, a 3-Star hotel with an excellent beach (hey, I said I was frugal). While the majah playahs might hit Atlantis on Paradise Island, I highly recommend you upgrade to the retro classic One & Only Ocean Club, which made Conde Nast Traveler's 2009 Gold List again.
